King Solomon's Mines (1885) is a novel by the English writer Sir H. Rider Haggard. This narrates the adventures in an unexplored region of Africa of a group of expeditionaries led by the hunter Allan Quatermain, in search of the missing brother of one of the members of the group. It is the first English adventure novel set in Africa, and is considered the genesis of the Lost World literary genre.

Allan Quatermain is the best hunter in South Africa and is about to embark on the most dangerous hunt of his career, his new employers Sir Henry Curtis and Captain John Good have a map revealing a route through the great desert, beyond a fearsome mountain range and even the greatest treasure in all of Africa: King Solomon's own lost diamond mines! Inspired by great travel adventures, Haggar created a style that gave rise to later action-adventure heroes, such as the famous archaeologist Indiana Jones.
